Meet our team of dedicated and passionate individuals who all share a love of equine diagnostic imaging.


OWNER

Sarah Puchalski, DVM, DACVR

Sarah hails from Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada.  She has a bachelor of science degree from Simon Fraser University in B.C. and graduated veterinary school in 1999 from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.  Following veterinary school she completed a 2 year program (internship/ residency) in Field Service and Sports Medicine at New Bolton Center, the large animal hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  She then pursued further training in diagnostic imaging at the University of California, Davis completing a 4 year residency in 2005.  She attained board certification by the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2004. 

Upon completion of her residency, she obtained a faculty position in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Davis earning tenure in 2012.  During that time she was actively involved in didactic and clinical teaching, research and clinical diagnostic imaging.  She has authored or co-authored more than 40 scientific articles and multiple book chapters relating to diagnostic imaging in veterinary medicine.

In 2013, Sarah left the University and started Puchalski Equine Inc.  She is based in Gibsons, British Columbia and in Wellington, Florida during the Winter Equestrian Festival.  Sarah is an avid show jumper competing in the amateur owner divisions.

Stacie aarsvold, DVM, DACVR, DACVR-EDI

Stacie is originally from Southern California, but grew up travelling around the world with her parents, living in more than 33 countries. She developed a love of horses growing up competing in show jumping up to the Young Rider level in Southern California. 

Stacie completed an undergraduate degree at the University of California, San Diego in 2008 and then graduated from veterinary school at the University of California, Davis in 2012. She then went on to complete an equine internship in Dover, NH followed by a radiology speciality internship in Los Angeles, CA.

Following her internships, Stacie went to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University for a radiology residency. She achieved board certification in 2017.


Anthony Derouen, dvm, dacvr

Anthony DeRouen is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology with a special interest in equine cross-sectional imaging. 

Anthony was born and raised in Southern California at the doorstep to Joshua Tree National Park. He developed a passion for the outdoors and animals at an early age, working on local ranches, raising guide dogs, and working for a local equine veterinarian.

Anthony attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, graduating with high honors in 2006. Anthony attended University of California, Davis for his veterinary degree, graduating in 2011. During veterinary school, he earned achievement awards for excellence in Large Animal Radiology and Large Animal Surgery. He then completed an equine internship in Glenwood Springs, CO.

Following the internship, Anthony returned to UC Davis for his radiology residency. During his residency, Anthony published research on equine cervical spine malformations and their clinical relevance. He achieved board certification in 2015. 


Amy Norvall, DVM, DACVR, DACVR-EDI

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Amy grew up on a farm riding horses. She competed in various disciplines and represented the country multiple times for polocrosse. She attended Louisiana State University, receiving her Bachelor of Science through the three-plus-one program in 2008 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Amy completed a one-year internship at Virginia Equine Imaging. She subsequently stayed on at VEI as a Senior Associate until 2015. At this time, she moved to California to complete a four-year radiology residency at UC Davis. During her residency Amy was involved in various research projects and won the Equine Research Study and Presentation award at the 2018 House Officer Seminar Day. Amy achieved board certification in 2018 and additional Equine Diagnostic Imaging board certification in 2019. 


Fellows

JAMIE BALDUCCI, DVM, DACVR

Jamie is originally from Allentown, PA but spent the later part of her childhood in Scottsdale, AZ. Jamie grew up around horses and competed in the hunter/jumpers on the East and West coast. Due to her passion for horses she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2012 followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University in 2016. Jamie received the senior clinical proficiency award in equine medicine and has published multiple equine-related papers.

Jamie completed a one year large animal rotating internship at the University of Georgia. She then received additional training in small animals, including a radiology specialty internship before completing her radiology residency at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. She achieved board certification in 2022.  


julia graham, DVM, DACVR

Julia is a Massachusetts native, developing a love for horses while learning to ride outside of Boston. She competed in equitation, dressage, and eventing while earning a bachelor of science degree from Mount Holyoke College, graduating in 2012. Later, Julia attended the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2018. During veterinary school, she received awards for academic excellence and proficiency in large animal surgery.

Julia then completed a rigorous equine internship at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in Ringoes, New Jersey before returning to the Cummings School for her radiology residency. She achieved board certification by the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2022. Julia has a passion for teaching future veterinarians and radiologists, also working as a part-time clinical assistant professor in radiology at the Cummings School.


ADMINISTRATION

Alexandra Strandberg, CASE COORDINATOR

Alexandra was born and raised in the Bay Area. She discovered her passion for riding at a young age and competed in the hunter divisions and hunter derbies as a junior. Riding became an integral part of her life and continues to be to this day.

Alexandra attended college on the East Coast and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University in 2015 and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Economics. Throughout her college career, Alexandra sought opportunities to learn the many aspects of healthcare whether it was working as an intern at L.E.K., a healthcare consulting firm based in San Francisco, or learning about care coordination and integration from the Physician in Chief at the Kaiser Permanente facility in Santa Clara.  Now Alexandra is based at Circle Oak Ranch year round as the diagnostic imaging case coordinator.


TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Krissy collett, Imaging Technician

Krissy graduated in 2002 from Colorado State University with a BS in Equine Science.  She then pursued a career in three-day eventing (2002-2007).

In late 2007 Krissy moved to Davis and began working for the University of California’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital where she started out in Large Animal Intensive Care Unit.  In 2010 she began working for the Large Animal Diagnostic Imaging Department as a radiographer, MRI technician, lab instructor and taught radiography to veterinary students. 

In December of 2014, Krissy left the university to pursue a career in the private sector.  She has worked two winter seasons at Palm Beach Equine Clinic where she ran the MRI unit, trained operators and assisted with radiography questions.  Currently she is based at Circle Oak Ranch, where she is in charge of all imaging production and related education.

In addition to having a keen interest in equine diagnostic imaging, Krissy also has a passion for photography (all photographs found on this site are her work).

These two are the best of friends.  Each day in the office is a bit more entertaining because they are there.  They live for their daily walks at the end of each day.  You cannot lose track of time at the end of the day because they will remind you when it is walk time!
